About

Scott D. Mayer is a partner who specializes in real estate transactions and litigation. He is an accomplished 30-plus year national commercial real estate attorney and executive who has worked for both private industry and government agencies. Scott’s practice focuses on transactions and litigation involving real property acquisitions and dispositions, commercial lease negotiations, real estate development, secured real property loan transactions, and public/private real estate partnerships.

Scott is also a licensed real estate broker and currently the principal of the real estate development and brokerage firm, The Academy Group, Inc. He was recently the Chief Operating Officer of a privately held real estate firm in Beverly Hills, California, with approximately $1 billion in commercial real estate assets under management. Scott was responsible for all aspects of the firm’s real estate activities including acquisitions and dispositions, lease negotiations, development and joint venture projects, and property management.

Scott was formerly the Chief Real Estate Officer for the County of Orange, California. He and his team were responsible for managing the County’s vast real estate holdings, which encompassed approximately 12 million square feet of improved properties. He was tasked with leveraging under-utilized County real estate assets to generate new uses and greater revenue streams, including the formation of innovative public/private partnerships for the revitalization of Dana Point Harbor, the Civic Center Master Plan in Santa Ana, and various mixed-use development projects on over 1,800 acres of County property.

Before assuming his government position, Scott was the President and General Counsel for a national real estate development firm with multiple offices and projects in 19 states with values in excess of $500 million. He led the firm’s acquisition, leasing, financing, and development activities and managed the firm’s portfolio and corporate affairs for over 15 years.

Scott was formerly a member of the Executive Committee of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of California, and has been a panel member at various real estate seminars and conferences including SPIRE’s panel on the Technology Sector in the Southern California Real Estate Market.

Scott received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, and a Master of Laws, with honors, in Tax from Golden Gate University.
